HALLOWEEN: Costumes You Should Never Do

As Halloween gets closer and you start planning your costume in more detail, we figured that now is a good time to remind you of the costumes you shouldn’t do, and you shouldn’t let your friends do them either.

Here are a few examples from BuzzFeed of some costumes that are in bad taste. If you had one of these in mind, just scratch it. You can think of something better!

  • Any costume that represents a tragic world event. Examples include: Anne Frank, a 9/11 terrorist and a coronavirus costume.
  • Any costume that appropriates or makes fun of someone’s culture. Remember when Scott Disick wore the “Arab” costume in 2014? Let’s not do that again.
  • Any costume that appropriates someone’s skin color or natural features. No blackface, no whiteface, no Native American makeup. Just stay away from the face paint.
  • Any costume that makes fun of someone with disabilities. One example is when Shaun White dressed up as “Simple Jack,” which was an intellectually disabled character from Tropic Thunder.
